Linhope Spout among Europe's most idyllic wild swimming spots

A water feature in Northumberland has been named among the best wild swimming spots in Europe.

Linhope Spout featured in the top 10 wild swimming spots in Europe according to research by travel experts at StressFreeCarRental.com.

From crystal clear lakes nestled between mountains and tidal lagoons to nature pools surrounded by beech forests, Europe is full of unique and beautiful spots for adventurers to take a dip.

StressFreeCarRental.com commented: “Often dubbed a ‘bottomless’ plunge pot, this tiny 5m deep and circular wild swimming spot lays below an 18-meter tumbling waterfall.

“The plunge pool is located in the isolated Beamish Valley, and there are no shallows so unconfident swimmers should stay clear.”

On Tripadvisor, Linhope Spout has a 4.5/5 rating, with one account posting: “Went on a bright blue, sunny day. Stopped at Ingram cafe for a coffee and biscuit before our walk. Then parked at recommended parking before setting off. Beautiful, unspoilt area.

“Lovely walk. A reasonable level of fitness and agility required to get down to the waterfall and back up again. We enjoyed our visit.”

John Charnock, CEO of StressFreeCarRental.com said: “Wild swimming has many benefits, whether for the mental restoration, the thrill or simply for fitness purposes- which is why we have seen it increase in popularity in recent years.

“The landscape and nature are a big part of what makes wild swimming so enjoyable, and more people are willing to travel to new locations in search of the perfect spot to take a dip and enjoy once-in-a-lifetime scenery.

“There are plenty of stunning locations in Europe for tourists like Lac d’Annecy in France which has stunning backdrops, or in the rocky canyons and freshwater pools of Cascata Capelli di Venere, in Italy.

“It is important to remember that wild swimming can be dangerous, and you should only consider it if you are a strong swimmer and have taken all the necessary safety precautions such as checking for potential hazards.”
